Future of work: West Brandenburg relies on collaboration and skilled workers
On September 13, 2025, the event “Economy in the Park: Future of the Working World” will take place in Brandenburg an der Havel in the Johanniskirche and the Gothic House. This exciting meeting, initiated by the project office of the West Brandenburg economic region, will provide a dialogue forum for representatives from business, administration and institutions to discuss burning topics relating to skilled workers, digitalization and company succession. According to current figures, there are around 30,550 registered employees subject to social security contributions in the region, while around 3,500 people are unemployed. At a time when 870 vacancies are awaiting recruitment, the exchange is urgently needed to improve the employment situation and maximize opportunities for future challenges.
In his remarks, Steffen Scheller underlines the immense importance of training and networks for companies and administrations. In this context, Dr. Alexander Tassinopoulos from the Potsdam Employment Agency will speak. He focuses on making it easier for young people to start their careers and emphasizes that despite positive developments in the labor market, reluctance to invest and uncertainty are slowing down companies.
Challenges of the modern working world
Digitalization affects all areas of life, and the job market does not remain unaffected. According to an updated projection by the BMAS, structural change over the next 10 to 20 years will result in both a shortage of skilled workers in some sectors and job cuts in other areas. Training occupations in manufacturing are particularly affected, while skilled trades suffer less from automation. At the same time, the big challenge is the necessary adaptation of employees to new technologies and requirements.
Current studies show that 86% of the population in Germany uses the Internet, including for work. Changes in work organization, business models and the required skills will continue to shape the markets. In this context, an increase in new professional and activity fields in areas such as digital engineering and data science is expected. It is therefore important to set the right course in order to take advantage of the advantages of digital transformation.
Training and Recruitment
An important event date has already been set: the West Brandenburg careers market will take place on September 20th. This offers companies the opportunity to specifically train young talent and fill vacancies. The “open company visits” on October 8th and the West Brandenburg career fair on May 9th, 2026 are also opportunities to promote encounters between training companies and potential trainees. Scheller adds that “collaboration is the key” to mastering the challenges of the future.
In the course of structural change, the demands placed on employees will increase. In order to fill the gaps, further training and a good working atmosphere are essential. Political fields of action such as employability, qualifications and working conditions play a central role in actively shaping the working world of tomorrow.
The in-depth discussions are accompanied by the accompanying art exhibition “in between” in the St. John's Church, which can be seen as a symbol of change and changes in the world of work.
Overall, Brandenburg an der Havel is facing an exciting time in which new ways must be sought and found in order to respond well to the demands of the contemporary working world. The region's innovative strength is required to actively seize opportunities and work towards a future in which everyone finds their place, whether as a trainee, specialist or entrepreneur.
