Brandenburg is celebrating the opening of the first overnight daycare center, Traumwelten!
An innovative concept is being launched in Brandenburg an der Havel: The first overnight daycare center “Traumwelten”, operated by Lebenshilfe Brandenburg-Potsdam, was ceremoniously inaugurated last Friday. This facility offers a unique opportunity for working parents to know that their children are well looked after during their nightly working hours.
The “Traumwelten” daycare center is located in the Nord district and covers 310 square meters on the upper floor of a barrier-free building. It is equipped with four rooms that offer a total of twelve overnight accommodations - distributed across different bed sizes. A spacious living and dining area with an integrated kitchen provides space for cooking and playing together. The teacher who puts the children to bed in the evening also wakes them up the next morning. Here, emphasis is placed on continuity, which supports the children's emotional well-being.
Unique framework conditions
To ensure the child's well-being, clear rules have been set: children are not allowed to stay in the facility twice for 24 hours in a row, and only those who have already attended the daycare center are allowed to sleep. This is particularly important as the daycare center aims to support overnight stays with parents on shift work. The latest findings from data collection on daycare centers show the need for such offers for families in special life situations, especially due to the legally established legal right to a kindergarten place.
Lebenshilfe places particular emphasis on the concept of exercise and healthy eating in order to promote children's development. The children are seen here as competent individuals who can actively participate in their everyday lives - a philosophy that runs through all internal processes. The acclimatization phase for the little guests lasts two weeks, during which individual interests and abilities are taken into account.
The answer to the need for care
The “Lebenswelten” daycare center, which was built during the Corona period with an investment of 9.4 million euros, offers space for 216 children. 123 places are currently occupied, so the new overnight daycare center will certainly attract great interest. The managing director of Lebenshilfe, Matthias Pietschmann, emphasizes that the daycare center is still in the start-up phase, which makes it an exciting project for the future. The facility currently employs 18 professionals who work flexible working hours to support the individual needs of parents.
With opening hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the possibility of reserving overnight places for children in shift work, “Traumwelten” offers valuable relief for parents. In addition, inspection of the shift schedules is required in order to prevent misuse during overnight stays. Among those present at the opening ceremony were the Mayor of Brandenburg, Steffen Scheller, and high-ranking representatives from the clinic, the police and the Asklepios Clinic, all of whom attended the first step into a new era of childcare in the region.
The “Traumwelten” daycare center therefore represents a significant step towards further diversifying the range of care for children and families in Brandenburg an der Havel and adapting it to the needs of modern, working parents. While the first registrations are already underway, it remains to be seen how this novel concept will prove itself in practice.
