Brandenburg has its first harvest king: Christian Braune is thrilled!

A lot is happening in agriculture in Brandenburg! At this year's village and harvest festival in Altranft you were able to experience a special moment: Christian Braune was elected the country's first male harvest sovereign. As a farmer from Nuthetal in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district, he impressed the jury with his extensive knowledge and impressive stage presence. With great passion for the profession, Braune plans to represent Brandenburg farmers at trade fairs and events and to improve communication between agriculture and consumers. “I am a farmer with passion,” he says and means it.

Christian Braune is no stranger to the industry. In 2019 he was recognized as the best East German young farmer at the professional competition organized by the Association of German Rural Youth. In addition to managing around 50 hectares on a part-time basis, he also works as a crop cultivation consultant. “The next Brandenburg village and harvest festival will take place on September 12, 2026 in Damelang,” announced Agriculture Minister Hanka Mittelstädt (SPD). The small town, with its 350 inhabitants in the municipality of Planebruch, then once again becomes the center of agriculture.

A new beginning for agriculture

Braune himself sees his role not only as an honor, but also as a responsibility. He would like to actively represent the interests of Brandenburg agriculture and point out any grievances. Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) said in his speech that the state government would do everything it could to reduce bureaucracy and create better conditions for farmers. This is particularly important because the industry faces major challenges in a changing society.

According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, agricultural businesses must continually find new ways to manage their land sustainably. All areas and animals on a farm in the respective municipal area are counted. What is important is the company headquarters where the farm buildings are located. This is important not only for agricultural statistics, but also for future funding of the industry, which continually requires adjustments to new circumstances.

With Christian Braune as harvest sovereign, a breath of fresh air could blow into Brandenburg's agricultural scene. It remains to be seen how he will implement his plans, but one thing is certain: the tradition of harvest festivals will remain alive in the future.
