Energie Cottbus is planning transfers: looking for reinforcements!

The mood at Energie Cottbus is tense. After a bitter 1:5 defeat against TSV 1860 Munich, the club now has to play against Rot-Weiss Essen in order to turn things around. So far, the team has picked up four points from two games in the 3rd league and is now taking a break from the DFB Cup, while personnel planning is going on diligently in the background. The coaching legend Claus-Dieter “Pele” Wollitz is giving full throttle to optimize the squad and at the same time take the pressure off his players Day24 reported.

The competition never sleeps. Arminia Bielefeld has overtaken Cottbus in the table, and Wollitz's worry lines are not just due to the defeat. A total of 17 players' contracts expire at the end of the season and a discussion about financial differences in contract extensions is ongoing. Wollitz makes it clear that the players' financial demands cannot be met without jeopardizing the club's entire existence. The coach is not only under criticism, but also has to keep an eye on the future of his players, who are coming under increasing pressure, as the analysis by Transfer market shows.

New transfers and squad adjustments

According to information from RBB24 three new players are ready to bring a breath of fresh air into the game.

The commitments are no coincidence, as coach Wollitz has noted that the team lacks “linear” players. These would allow the team to better occupy the wings without having to improvise. There is also a need to catch up on defense: right-back Henry Rorig currently has no back-up. Dennis Slamar, actually a trained central defender, was ready to step in for Rorig, but hasn't played yet. Left-back Jannis Zaydan is also not in the squad as he plays in the U19 youth league.

Looking into the future

As the season progresses, Cottbus has a lot of opportunities with four opponents from the bottom half of the table to end the current weak phase. Wollitz plans to stick to the tried and tested game systems despite the pressure. At the moment, squad planning and the implementation of new transfers with the upcoming games should be an important step for the club to get back on the road to success.

With this starting point, it remains to be seen how Energie Cottbus will react to the challenges and whether the new faces in the team will have the desired effect. The next games will be crucial – for the current season and the future of the club.
