Large-scale operation after a train accident in Cottbus: police and rescue workers on site
In Cottbus today, a large-scale operation was required from numerous emergency services after a person was hit by a train. The state and federal police, the DB emergency manager and rescue services, including the Cottbus professional fire department and the Gerätehaus Süd volunteer fire department, were on site. They are currently coordinating measures to be able to help quickly in this difficult situation. Niederlausitz Current reports that the police have already started investigating the exact cause of the accident.
Due to the incidents, the railway line between Neuhausen and Cottbus remained closed for several hours to enable the rescue and emergency team to carry out the necessary work. A railway crossing near the scene of the accident was closed. During checks in the city, the police also discovered a fairytale traffic accident in which a motorcyclist was seriously injured.
New rescue station in Cottbus
On the sidelines of these operations, the new rescue station of the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe (JUH) in Cottbus is also mentioned. This has been in operation since March 2025 and is located directly opposite the old guard station, which is now being demolished. The station was designed as a central contact point for the entire rescue service in Cottbus and is operational around the clock. Johanniter emphasizes that not only emergency ambulances but also emergency transport vehicles are available here.
The new station is modernly equipped and includes, among other things, ten parking spaces for ambulances, a disinfection hall and special relaxation rooms for employees. These new buildings are intended to significantly improve the efficiency and quality of the emergency services in the region. In Cottbus, the German rescue service is regarded as one of the best in the world, which is supported by modern technology and extensive training for paramedics.
Cooperation for the future
The official opening of the new “Rescue Station at the University Hospital” impressively shows how important the cooperation between the fire department, the city, the emergency services and the Medical University of Lausitz is. The location not only offers optimal logistical support, but also space for further education and training, which can be crucial in emergency situations. MUL CT confirms that the project was implemented on time and within budget, which underlines the good organization of the responsible departments.
Given the current situation, the importance of this new station becomes clear, as it not only increases the quality of medical care, but is also a sign of the technical and organizational development of the rescue service in Cottbus.
