A breath of fresh air is blowing across the transport landscape in Brandenburg, because from December 2023 there will be a new rail connection that will bring travelers to the region. The new regional train line RE20, which was named after the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB), will connect the cities of Lübben, Königs Wusterhausen, Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) and Berlin every hour. This not only ensures more connections, but also significant time savings for commuters and travelers. Loud maz-online.de The new connection is made possible by the reopening of the Dresden Railway, which creates special connections between Blankenfelde-Mahlow, Rangsdorf and Zossen.
The innovations were announced by Alexander Kaczmarek, Deutsche Bahn's corporate representative, at a recent economic conference, and the anticipation of these developments is palpable. The Airport Express (FEX) will also take a new route from December and run every 15 minutes between the main train station, Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz to the airport. This redesign means that the travel time from Berlin Central Station to BER will drop from 39 minutes to just 23 minutes.
Comfortable journey to Königs Wusterhausen
The RE20 regional train takes travelers from Königs Wusterhausen to Südkreuz in around 30 minutes, which significantly improves the journey for commuters. While the RE20 will initially end in Lübbenau, direct connections from Cottbus to BER are only possible in the form of certain trains. In order for the RE20 to also be able to travel to Cottbus in the future, the line needs to be expanded to two tracks, but this is not expected to be completed until 2027.
