Nils Petersen brings the energy jersey back to Cottbus!

As the saying goes, old love never rusts: Nils Petersen will organize a big fan festival on September 6th, 2025 at the LEAG Energie Stadium in Cottbus. It will be a very special reunion, as numerous former teammates from the legendary FC Energie Cottbus team, which shook up the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2010/11 season, are expected. Petersen, who won the title of top scorer with 25 goals in this successful season, has a deep-rooted connection to the club with which he made his professional debut.

The team, which caused a sensation under coach Pele Wollitz, scored an impressive 120 goals in two seasons. The highlights of this time were spectacular matches, including a memorable 5:5 against Karlsruher SC and a 5:0 win against SC Paderborn. This has left a lasting impression on the fans and brings back many memories that will now be revived at the upcoming meeting. The anticipation is great, especially among the confirmed participants such as Markus Brzenska, Dennis Sörensen, Jules Reimerink and several others, who will proudly wear the then unmistakable energy jersey again. Even Leonardo Bittencourt is currently asking Werder Bremen to take part in this special event.

Another visit from Petersen

Nils Petersen's return to the home of the late autumn cycles is nothing new, as he already reported back last year. At the DFB Cup game against Werder Bremen on August 20, 2024, he was wildly celebrated when he appeared as an interview guest on “Sky”. The fans expressed their support for the former player and rightly so, as Petersen played a key role in the club's sporting success. Not only did he score the most goals in the 2010/11 season, but he also led the team to the semi-finals of the DFB Cup after they eliminated Bundesliga clubs Freiburg, Wolfsburg and Hoffenheim.

His last visit to Cottbus before this fan festival took place six years ago, when he was on the pitch for SC Freiburg. In the meantime, Petersen, whose signature was also immortalized in the Energy Museum, has published a book and is also co-owner of a Japanese restaurant in Hamburg. In addition to his culinary commitment, he is studying sports management, which means he doesn't have to completely forget about his visits to the stadium.

Nils Petersen – An impressive career

Petersen, born on December 6, 1988, began his professional career at Energie Cottbus and knew how to make sustainable use of his time with the Lausitz team. After moving to Bayern Munich in 2011 for 2.8 million euros, where he immediately became a hat-trick supplier, he also played for Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg, among others. But his successes are not limited to his club career. He also made a name for himself internationally when he was part of the 2016 Olympic team, scoring five goals in a single game. He is the first and only German footballer with this remarkable record.

The fans and former companions are looking forward to the upcoming meeting in September with great anticipation and warmth. The spirit of past sporting successes will be revived by Nils Petersen and his teammates as they reflect on old times and exchange memories.
