Serious motorcycle accident in Cottbus: driver critically injured!
A serious traffic accident turned the Seegraben intersection in Cottbus into a chaotic scenario late on Friday evening, around 10:15 p.m. In the collision between a car and a motorcycle, the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and had to be immediately flown to a special clinic in a rescue helicopter. As Niederlausitz Aktuell reports, the current state of health of the injured driver was unknown at the time.
The rescue workers were quickly on the scene and treated the motorcyclist directly at the scene of the accident. The Cottbus fire department took over the protection of the accident and took care of removing the debris from the road. Due to the severity of the accident, the intersection was completely closed into the night during the investigation and traffic was diverted over a wide area. The police also seized both vehicles for a detailed examination in order to clarify the exact circumstances of the collision.
Cause of accident and investigation
According to Radio Cottbus, the car driver obviously disregarded the motorcyclist's right of way, which led to the violent collision. DEKRA experts were called in to carry out an accident analysis in order to clarify the exact processes. The material damage caused amounts to around 40,000 euros.
In addition to this incident, there was a separate incident: a driver with a defective taillight was checked. The Mercedes driver turned out to be unauthorized because he could not produce a valid driver's license. He was banned from continuing his journey and criminal proceedings were initiated for driving without a license.
