Sports weekend in Hanover: thrilling games and exciting events!

Today, August 15, 2025, Hanover is looking forward to an exciting sports weekend. From football to handball to triathlon – there is something for every sports lover.

Variety of sporting events

There are numerous exciting matches coming up in the state capital. In the DFB Cup, Energie Cottbus will face Hannover 96 on Saturday at 6 p.m. Football fans will have royal football in the regional league on Sunday when HSC Hannover takes on Phönix Lübeck at 3 p.m. There is also a lot of football going on in the lower leagues, as the matches in the upper league between SV Meppen II and 1. FC Germania Egestorf/Langreder and in the regional league show.

The entire weekend football program includes a variety of other games:

  • Samstag, 15. August:
    • STK Eilvese – VfR Germania Ochtersum
    • SV Ramlingen/Ehlershausen – SV Bruchhausen-Vilsen
  • Sonntag, 16. August:
    • SC Hemmingen-Westerfeld – SV Arminia Hannover
    • 1. FC Wunstorf – OSV Hannover
    • SV Esperke – SV BE Steimbke

The teams from the district leagues and district leagues are also making people sit up and take notice. The encounters here are expected to be highly engaging and attract numerous spectators.

Handball and athletics

Handball fans can look forward to the DHB Cup, where TuS Vinnhorst will compete against Dessau-Rosslauer HV on Friday evening. Athletics lovers will also get their money's worth. The 7th Alvesroder Wisentrun will take place on Friday from 4:30 p.m. in the Springe Wisentgehege.

In addition to these highlights, the triathlon community will also be active on Saturday and Sunday. The 11th Altwarmbüchen Triathlon starts on Saturday from 3 p.m., followed by a series of events that will attract both professionals and amateurs.

Dragon boat and equestrian sports

Another highlight of the weekend is the Dragon Boat Fun Cup in Garbsen, which starts on Saturday at 2 p.m. and continues on Sunday at 10 a.m. For horse fans there is the RFV Stelingen anniversary tournament. Here, speed and skill are tested in various tests up to classes L and M.
