Tennis Borussia: The big change for promotion to the regional league!
The top league soccer team Tennis Borussia (TeBe) has a lot planned for the coming period. How rbb24 reports, the club wants to work sustainably towards the regional league and has set itself the ambitious goal of returning within the next three to five years. After a mixed 2024/25 season, in which TeBe finished in ninth place in the NOFV-Oberliga Nord, it became clear that a fundamental analysis and strategic realignment were needed.
The season started promisingly, and under coach Benjamin Eta there were three wins and one draw in the first five games. Unfortunately, the form curve dropped dramatically around the winter break. In the phase from matchdays 16 to 25, the team only managed two wins, which ultimately led to Eta's dismissal. Board member Ariel Gala was disappointed by the drop in performance and cited problems in defense and offense as the main reasons for the unsuccessful second half of the season.
The new man at the top
Umberto Sacchi took over as coach on an interim basis after Eta was fired and managed to lead the team to ninth place. Sacchi, who is considered loyal and tactically adept, has developed clear processes and a concept for the integration of young players. This met with great approval within the club, who wanted to learn from last year's mistakes. Instead of quick success, TeBe is now focusing on continuity and a strong “we-feeling” between players, fans and employees.
Another important part of the planning is the excellent youth and young talent development, which is seen as the key to the further development of the club. The squad should consist of a mix of young talent and experienced players, with David Danko being highlighted as a leading player.
Change of coach as an opportunity
The situation at TeBe is not an isolated case. How BR emphasizes, coaching changes in football are often a signal when the club management is dissatisfied. However, scientific studies show mixed results on the effects of coaching changes. Sebastian Zart from the TU Kaiserslautern has found that such changes can often lead to short-term increases in performance, which can last for up to 16 match days.
The exchange of trainers can definitely have positive effects, but we still recommend giving the new trainers enough time to get used to it and strengthen the team. At Tennis Borussia it will also be crucial that the new course under Sacchi is supported by the players and that everyone pulls together.
Overall, TeBe is facing an exciting time in which we can set the course for the future. The challenges are clear, but with good cooperation between coach, team and club management, the way back to the regional league could be successful.
