In preparation for the coming third division season, TSG Neustrelitz suffered a bitter defeat on July 5, 2025. In the third test match, coach Thomas Franke's team lost 0-2 against Energie Cottbus. The game took place in the Werner-Seelenbinder sports facility in Herzberg, Brandenburg, and attracted around 1,200 spectators who experienced an exciting game.
The Neustrelitzers were once again unable to convince in terms of their test match record, as this was their third defeat in a row. They previously lost against BFC Dynamo (0:1) and Hertha BSC II (2:3). Despite these results, coach Thomas Franke was positive about his team's performance and was able to experiment defensively with new signings Remmy Jason Orlando Kruse and Younes Laribi as well as test player Daniel Touko. Touko, previously at SC Staaken, remains unattached.

In the friendly against Cottbus, Jonas Hofmann gave the hosts the lead in the 11th minute. Erik Engelhardt increased the score to 2-0 in the 52nd minute, which marked the final score of the game. There remains a lot of work for the Neustrelitz team before they continue next Saturday against Union Sandersdorf (South Oberliga). Kick-off will be at 1 p.m.
Energie Cottbus was not only strong in this game, but also achieved its first preseason friendly win on Friday when the team defeated VSG Altglienicke 4-2. According to Sportschau, Cottbus now has an intensive test match program, with further games on July 8th in Mahlsdorf and on July 9th at home against Greifswalder FC. A training camp is also planned in Austria, which will take place from July 17th to 23rd.
