CSD Eberswalde defies hostility: 500 participants celebrate diversity!
The second Christopher Street Day (CSD) took place in Eberswalde on June 21, 2025, an event that attracted a strong turnout of hundreds of people despite recent challenges. Just a few days earlier, a diversity festival in Bad Freienwalde was attacked, which brought the protests and celebrations to the fore again. How approx reports, these CSD events are a symbol of the rights of LGBTQ+ people and are reminiscent of the Stonewall uprising of 1969.
At the event in Eberswalde, which began at 1 p.m., queer people mobilized to bring their visibility and demands for equality to the streets. Nevertheless, the parade was accompanied by a tense climate as the AfD gathered nearby in the early afternoon. Police had increased their presence to ensure the safety of participants, such as north courier reported. Brandenburg police chief Oliver Stepien was on site to find out about the situation after two people were injured in the attack on the diversity festival in Bad Freienwalde on Sunday.
Celebrations and protests in context
The CSD in Eberswalde is part of a larger network of CSD celebrations that take place in several German cities such as Berlin, Cologne and Munich rbb notes. Combining political messages with cultural highlights, these events are both a celebration of diversity and a protest against discrimination. They offer a wide supporting program with concerts, theater performances and panel discussions.
The motto of the current CSDs is to strengthen the rights of LGBTQ+ people. An important concern in Germany is the reform of the transsexual law and the fight against hate crimes. The CSD is a platform for solidarity and support in the community, and numerous allies, including politicians and companies, are actively involved.
Set an example and shape a future together
Today's CSD not only has economic significance for Eberswalde, as it attracts many visitors and promotes local businesses, but it also stands for a strong common will for solidarity and respect. In times when hostility against the LGBTQ+ community is increasing, solidarity becomes even more important. In this context, the SPD Brandenburg has strengthened the cohesion of the party, which shows that political institutions also support the values of equality.
As we see, CSDs not only bring about changes in society, but also offer the opportunity to network and put important issues on the agenda. A day that is both a celebration and a reminder – that is the CSD.
