Königs Wusterhausen: New drugstores and barrier-free train stations in focus!

In Königs Wusterhausen there is currently a lot of buzz in the drugstore scene. Several investors have their eyes on new locations. Things are making progress, particularly in the Niederlehme district – a project here is already in its final stages of planning. Aber auch im benachbarten Zernsdorf wird aktuell heiß diskutiert, ob dort ein neuer Drogeriemarkt entstehen soll. The city is currently represented by a single Rossmann branch, which is not enough to meet the needs of the population in the long term. A Article from maz-online.de informed that, according to the 2019 retail concept, new drugstores are only permitted in the city center and in the Fontane Center. However, an exception for the project in Niederlehme was decided in 2023. The city administration is currently in the process of reviewing the economic aspects for additional markets.

Barrier-free access in train stations is also making progress. Access to the platforms in Eichwalde and Zeuthen has now been made barrier-free. While Eichwalde has an elevator, the remaining work in Eichwalde will be completed by the end of the year and in Zeuthen by next summer. Before this measure, passengers with reduced mobility were practically excluded from rail transport in Eichwalde. Deutsche Bahn has set itself the task of making its services accessible to people with disabilities. In one Announcement from sustainability.deutschebahn.com we learn that all business areas have been sensitized to make digital offerings barrier-free. The recently published internal guidelines on digital accessibility show the seriousness of the situation.

The legal framework is supported by the Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG), which obliges private economic actors to ensure accessibility. This law comprehensively regulates the requirements for manufacturers, importers and service providers with regard to accessibility. Guidelines have been created for companies to implement these requirements and thus ensure wider accessibility, as shown on the website Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs can be read.

Aside from economic developments, the community of Nuthe-Urstromtal is happy to have new neighbors. A couple bought a property with an old LPG filling station for 42,500 euros and are planning to renovate the site so they can live there. Petra Liesenfeld and Klaus Axenkopf already live at the Klasdorf cultural farm and are actively involved in village life. Among other things, they are known for the event series “Talking is Gold” and the jazz festival “Umrangieren”, which takes place on July 23rd to 25th - a highlight for music lovers.

The Air Force was also recently active in Holzdorf and organized a three-day camp. Around 40 young people showed interest in a career in the Bundeswehr and took part in the camp. This initiative is intended to introduce young people to the opportunities within the armed forces and to inspire them for a future in the service of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The developments in Königs Wusterhausen and the surrounding area show that things remain exciting there not only economically but also from a social perspective. With regard to accessibility and new living spaces, it remains to be seen how the situation will develop further.
