Lübben in film fever: This is how the Spreewald Clinic in Brandenburg is created!
The Sat.1 series “The Spreewald Clinic” is very popular and transports viewers into the fictional world of Börnow, while filming takes place in the enchanting town of Lübben, Brandenburg. Many scenes from the first season were filmed in this charming town with around 14,000 inhabitants, which is known for its historic old town and the impressive Paul Gerhardt Church. This church, an impressive example of late Gothic architecture, even offers the opportunity to climb the tower with Brandenburg's only female tower keeper. The film is also filmed on the market square in Lübben, where the backdrop in combination with the surroundings always captures romantic moments.
The plot of the series revolves around the main characters Dr. Lea Wolff, played by Sina-Valeska Jung, and Dr. Gregor Wemuth (Karsten Speck) and Dr. Barbara Berg (Muriel Baumeister), who all work in the fictional Spreewald clinic. In the first season, filming took place in the Dahme-Spreewald Clinic, and some scenes were even produced during regular hospital operations. The real Spreewald Clinic is located about 2.5 kilometers from Lübben city center, although filming took place in an unused part of the clinic. This allowed for an authentic feel in front of the camera while still providing medical care.
Filming locations and picturesque backdrops
Particularly noteworthy are the outdoor shots, some of which take place in the Dahme-Spreewald Clinic. For the second season, which started on June 20th, the team will also partially move to the Wenckebach Clinic in Berlin. Regardless, Lübben remains the main location, showcasing the natural beauty of the Brandenburg region. An important location is Lea's datsche on Lake Teupitz, about 30 kilometers from Lübben. Central scenes take place here that capture the idyllic surroundings of the dacha.
Another highlight is the “Sägewerk” bar, which not only plays an important role in the series, but was also converted from a former carpentry wood warehouse. This stylish bar is located approximately 1.5 kilometers from the Lübben Castle Island and graces the filming with a unique flair. Accompanied by the picturesque landscape, the sawmill bar becomes the backdrop for a social gathering not only for the series, but also as a real magnet for fans and tourists.
Life and culture in Lübben
Lübben is not only a filming location, but also a popular attraction for tourists. The area is famous for its paddling tours and boat trips, especially from Castle Island. This attractive island is one of the tourist centers and offers numerous opportunities to explore the magical region. There is also a museum on the castle island itself that brings the history of the region to life.
Another interesting aspect of the series is the home of Lea's daughter Nico and her family, which is very popular with viewers. The apartment, although privately owned, is located near the castle island and has scenic access to the river and the Gurkenradweg. The mystery surrounding this family's exact location alone adds to the appeal of the stories the series tells.
“The Spreewald Clinic” is broadcast Monday to Friday at 7:00 p.m. on SAT.1, and if you missed an episode you can watch it again on Joyn, where repeats are also available. This series has not only won a place in the hearts of many people, but also increased interest in the Brandenburg region as a tourist destination.
