Parking problems in Kronenpark: Why tenants don't use underground parking!

Things are simmering in the “Kronenpark” residential area in Königs Wusterhausen. Despite the recently completed underground car park, which offers space for around 200 vehicles, many tenants prefer to park on the street. This phenomenon not only causes discontent among residents, but has also brought the city administration into action. Marvin Heinrichs, 26 years old and has been living in Kronenpark for a year, reports from his peers: “I pay 900 euros in rent for my 50 m² apartment, but 110 euros for a parking space in the underground car park is simply too much for me,” he explains as he looks at the parking chaos on Schütte-Lanz-Straße. He is one of many who shy away from the costs and prefers to park on the street, which can lead to problems, as the city's press spokeswoman, Katrin Kunipatz, confirms. The city has already put up bollards and no parking signs to curb rampant parking.

The housing situation in Kronenpark is generally tense: most of the residential units are condominiums, the prices of which are not exactly low. A four-room apartment has a price of 500,000 euros and costs 1,960 euros warm. In addition, only one parking space can be rented per apartment or purchased for 35,000 euros. This all contributes to the uncertainty. Residents like Andrea Haiber, who rented a parking space in the underground car park, are struggling with the challenges of parking regulations.

New district in planning

Another interesting aspect that is agitating people in Königs Wusterhausen is the planned development of a new district in Königspark. Up to 2,500 apartments are to be built on an area of 56 hectares, supplemented by a large park, daycare centers, shops, doctor's offices and schools. This ambitious project could be launched with a significant investment from DLE Land Development GmbH, which has already invested four million euros in the planning. Citizens have the opportunity to express their opinion in a survey, even if the result is not binding.

Mayor Michaela Wiezorek sees this project as an opportunity for more participation, but there is also resistance. Many residents prefer a commercial area that was already planned in 1992. Critics warn that the influx will overload the infrastructure, and if the plans for the residential project fail, the old development plan could come into effect.

Overall, Königs Wusterhausen is at an exciting point: the parking problem in Kronenpark clearly shows that with a growing population, the infrastructure also has to keep pace. The planned district could be a solution or could further distort the situation. It remains to be seen how the citizen survey will turn out and what decisions will be made in the near future.
