Fatal accident in Kleinziethen: cyclist hit by scooter!
A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, near Kleinziethen in the Dahme-Spreewald district, which cost the life of a cyclist. The man, who wanted to cross Highway 75 near an intersection, was hit by a motor scooter and could not be saved despite immediate resuscitation measures. He died at the scene of the accident.
As rbb24 reports, the emergency services were alerted at 2:10 p.m. The road was completely closed for several hours in order to investigate and reconstruct the accident, for which a DEKRA expert was called in. The 61-year-old driver of the scooter was taken to hospital after also sustaining injuries in the collision.
Course of the accident and initial investigations
The accident occurred when the cyclist tried to cross highway 75 into the intersection area with federal highway 96a. Radiocottbus describes that the cyclist was hit by the approaching motor scooter. It is still unclear how exactly the accident occurred, which is why the police investigation is still ongoing. The vehicles involved were seized as evidence.
If you look at road safety for cyclists, you can see that accidents involving bicycles are becoming more and more common. According to a study by insurers' accident research (UDV), which cites Tagesschau, around 27,400 cyclists had accidents in Germany alone in 2023 without external influence, which is worrying. This trend shows that the number of accidents is not decreasing despite the increasing demand for cycling among citizens.
The dangers for cyclists
Falls and accidents increase, especially in the cold season, when wet conditions, ice or leaves make cycling even more difficult. According to the UDV, almost one in three seriously injured cyclists was the only one involved in the accident. Poor infrastructure is often perceived as the main cause of accidents. Curbs or tram tracks often pose a danger that can unexpectedly throw cyclists off balance.
The current situation makes it clear that a rethink is necessary. All the more so because more and more older people like to use bikes - mobility behavior is also changing. Cyclists should be aware that their own riding style also has a significant impact on safety. Almost two-thirds of cyclists said their driving style contributed to an accident. This increases the responsibility for each individual who gets on the bike.
