The age groups with the most infections are 35-59 year olds, followed by 15-34 year olds. What is particularly notable is the fact that younger age groups, such as those aged 0-14, are also significantly affected.

New variant under observation

A new Corona variant, called Nimbus (NB.1.8.1), was discovered in January 2025 and classified by the WHO as a “variant under observation”. However, so far there is no evidence of more severe disease progression, which is reassuring news for the population.

Vaccination status in Germany

The vaccination rate in Germany is also promising: According to current data from Statista, 76.3% of the population have been basic immunized by April 8, 2023, and 77.9% have received at least one vaccination. The vaccine distribution includes, among other things, 46.6 million doses from Biontech and 5.1 million doses from Moderna.

A total of 4,753,667 vaccinations had been administered in Brandenburg by February 27, 2024, with a two-time vaccination rate of 68.1%. Booster vaccinations are also quite high at 55.9%. These numbers are crucial to prevent a further increase in infections and protect the population.

Overall, it can be said that the situation in the Elbe-Elster district and in Brandenburg in general is showing encouraging progress. With stable infection numbers and a high vaccination rate, we are optimistic about the future.
