Severe storm warning: thunderstorms and heavy rain over Berlin!
Things will be turbulent in Berlin and Brandenburg on Thursday: meteorologists are expecting violent storms to hit the region. A new surge of warm, humid air from the western Mediterranean ensures that the thunderstorms will bring the first showers in the early afternoon. Prignitz, Havelland, Teltow-Fläming and the Elbe-Elster district are particularly affected. According to rbb24, these showers will become more numerous and intense until the evening, especially in the central and eastern regions of Brandenburg.
What's brewing! The temperatures reach highs between 27 and 33 degrees, with Lower Lusatia becoming particularly warm. Meteorologist Torsten Walter describes the day as having started off pleasantly, but the sky became noticeably cloudy in the morning. In the afternoon, severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and even squalls can dominate the forecast. The gusts could reach speeds of up to 105 kilometers per hour - that sounds like a lot of wind!
Severe weather warnings and risks
The warnings from the German Weather Service (DWD) are red: up to 30 liters of precipitation per square meter can accumulate in a short period of time. Also the climatologist Dr. Karsten Brandt is sure that there will be numerous thunderstorms, especially in the eastern and southern parts of Germany. According to Bild, there is not only a threat of heavy rain and hail, but also hurricane-like gusts, as was already recorded on Tuesday in Berlin and Brandenburg, when hundreds of fire brigade operations were necessary.
The thunderstorms will peak from midday and gradually move northwards from the southwestern border regions. Severe thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail are also expected in Bavaria and Saxony. On Thursday morning, dense cumulus clouds appeared and spread across the various federal states. As if the weather forecasts weren't enough, the meteorologists are predicting a noticeable change in the weather for the weekend. The weather is expected to be consistently warm and hot in many parts, with temperatures over 30 degrees no longer being uncommon. A look at the coming days shows that the hot temperatures will increase on Friday: the thermometer could climb up to 36 degrees.
While many are looking forward to summer, it is important to keep an eye on developments. Be prepared and heed severe weather warnings to get through possible storms safely!
