Sonnewalde: after big fire! Evacuation canceled - injured firefighters!
Sonnewalde, Deutschland - A quiet evening was abruptly interrupted for the residents of Kleinbahren on Tuesday when a forest fire broke out near the village. The fire stretched over an area of around 22 hectares and spread in the southeast. At around 2:00 p.m., the disaster protection staff of the Elbe-Elster district was convened to coordinate the Situation. A total of 272 firefighters with 36 vehicles and 27 police officers were deployed to control the fire. Niederlausitz Aktuell reports that the operations management was handed over to the local firefighters from 10:00 p.m.
The rapid action of the emergency services could prevent the fire from spreading. However, 52 residents from Kleinbahren had to be evacuated as a precaution, but were allowed to return to their houses at 8:00 p.m. Nevertheless, the K 6229 district road remains closed, while most other road closures have already been lifted. Three firefighters suffered injuries, but fortunately there were no further personal injury.
secure location, but the highest risk remains
The fire brigade now has the fire under control. But the situation remains tense because several forest fires in South Brandenburg are combated at the same time. According to the Tagesschau, a total of eight fires are currently active in the region, whereby the area is considered to be "suspicious", which makes the extinguishing work difficult. The exact causes of the fire are still being examined, whereby human negligence is in the room.
Brandenburg is particularly susceptible to forest fires due to its deep pine forests and the lack of precipitation.
Citizens are available for questions on 03535 46 4004. The responsible bodies continuously inform about the situation and the measures that are taken to ensure the safety of the population. Schools, daycare centers and other districts have so far been spared from the fire and were able to continue to operate.
