First vocal night in the Hofkirche: voices inspire in Brandenburg!
Last Saturday, October 10, 2025, the first vocal night took place in the Hofkirche am Jakobsgraben in Brandenburg an der Havel, which really thrilled the audience. The event offered an extraordinary program and celebrated the instrument of the year 2025 - the human voice. City of Brandenburg reports that the participants came from, among others, the Vicco von Bülow music school, the vocal ensemble “Hört auf Klaus” and the “Brandenburger Extra Chor”.
The musical performances ranged from classical choral music to self-composed contemporary vocal music. The choir director and singing teacher Karsten Drewing, who led the musical event, also spoke about the upcoming performance of the Metzger Oratorio, which will be performed in Berlin on November 16, 2025.
Current and upcoming musical highlights
The audience perceived the Vokalnacht program as very high quality and varied. In addition to the vocal night, the ExtraChorBrandenburg has also planned many other exciting events. For example, performances of the Metzger Oratorio, a work by Cormac Brian O'Duffy, take place in various churches and commemorate the Catholic priest and pacifist Max Josef Metzger, who was executed in 1944. Commemorative events are also part of this project. Brandenburg Extra Choir added that the next major event will be an a cappella concert titled “From Madrigal to Pop,” which will be performed at multiple locations in July 2025.
But it's not just concerts on the program. The “Music Schools Open Churches” series will start in early 2025 with a total of 88 benefit concerts in Brandenburg. This initiative promotes the preservation of valuable church buildings and enables students from 17 music schools to perform in historic churches. The donations collected from these concerts will go directly to the renovation of the historic places of worship. Radio Cottbus reports that the first concert took place on March 1, 2025 in Kirchhain.
Unique opportunities and views
The vocal night is considered a musical highlight and shows great potential for repetition in the future. The audience was enthusiastic after the event and wants more events like this. Fans of vocal music can look forward to: In addition to the concerts mentioned, the Brandenburg Theater's Bürgerbühne will also offer many exciting performances. The theater recently completed a successful production of “The Magic Flute,” which received a positive response.
The vocal night and the numerous upcoming concerts are a sign that Brandenburg an der Havel remains a center for musical diversity and cultural encounters. With the great response from the first vocal night, it shouldn't be long before the next events take place in the region.
