Five AfD MPs in Brandenburg classified as right-wing extremists!
The political landscape in Brandenburg is increasingly being shaped by discussions about right-wing extremist movements. Currently, five of the 30 AfD representatives in the Brandenburg state parliament have been classified as right-wing extremist. This emerges from a report by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution Daily Mirror was reported. The affected MPs include the parliamentary group leader Hans-Christoph Berndt and the parliamentary manager Dennis Hohloch. New to this list is MP Jean-Pascal Hohm.
The other three MPs - Lars Günther, Daniel Freiherr von Lützow and Dennis Hohloch, who has long been classified as a right-wing extremist - give the discussion additional fuel. Axel Heidrich, acting head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, confirmed these assessments and pointed out that these classifications are based on a solid legal basis supported by the country's Ministry of the Interior.
Right-wing extremist efforts on the rise
The classification of the AfD regional association itself, which is now classified as right-wing extremist, is also interesting. However, this classification is on hold because the AfD has taken legal action against this decision. RBB reports that prominent AfD representatives such as Lars Schieske and Andreas Kalbitz had already been classified as right-wing extremist in the previous electoral period. Kalbitz has now ended his political career in the state parliament, but his influence in the scene remains.
The numbers from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution are alarming. In 2024, 3,650 right-wing extremists were counted in Brandenburg, which means an increase of almost 20 percent compared to the previous year. Around four out of ten of these people are considered violence-oriented, and the threat level is also reflected in a 47.4 percent increase in right-wing extremist crimes.
Society under pressure
The population of Brandenburg faces challenges posed by these extremist movements. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution emphasizes that right-wing extremist groups exploit social issues, for example by attacking asylum seekers or the LGBTIQ community. The number of violent attacks on asylum accommodation has also increased. The emotional reactions of the AfD MPs, such as Hohloch's description of his colleagues as "normal concerned citizens", testify to the division in society, which is exacerbated by extremism.
It is unclear how long the political situation in Brandenburg will remain stable. Experts warn that the AfD, despite internal conflicts, acts as a reservoir for right-wing extremist tendencies. The spread of right-wing extremist ideologies and the mobilization of the electorate could seriously disrupt social peace.
In view of these alarming developments, it is to be hoped that political decision-makers will act decisively to effectively address the emerging threats to society. The current one also provides information on this Constitutional protection report, which deals with right-wing extremist efforts and presents comprehensive figures.
