CSD 2025 in Rathenow: Colorful together against hostility!

On August 30, 2025, Rathenow has reason to celebrate! Dennis Driebusch, the committed organizer of the second Christopher Street Day (CSD), invites the population under the motto “Rathenow remains colorful!” to work together for more cohesion and visibility of LGBTQ people. The CSD will start with a parade that begins at 3 p.m. in front of the train station and stretches over a distance of around three kilometers.

Driebusch is expecting over 200 participants and is planning a lively afternoon with a stop at Märkischer Platz for speeches. The finale will be celebrated with a concert at the Rideplatz, where the band “ Büro 39 ” from Rathenow will provide musical entertainment. Admission to the concert is free. To ensure security during the event, a private security service will be deployed and the police have already announced preventive measures. “We want everyone to feel safe,” emphasizes Driebusch, who is seeking closer cooperation with the security forces after the LGBTQ community has recently been exposed to increased hostility.

Strong together for diversity

The need for events like the CSD becomes clear when you see how the queer community still has to fight against discrimination and violence today. A recent incident in Bad Freienwalde has shown how important it is to stand up for openness and tolerance. In addition, there is growing concern that some political parties want to question the achievements of the queer community. Support for the CSD comes from various local parties, including the SPD, FDP, Die Linke and Die Grünen, as well as from other organizations such as queer Brandenburg and the Oase youth center.

It is also important that all people who support a diverse society take part in the parade and wave the rainbow flag. “The CSD is an important platform to set an example for openness and acceptance,” said Driebusch. These strong statements are also echoed in the 1st Rathenow CSD, which was organized last year by a children's and youth parliament and the new Left Youth Rathenow.

A safe space for everyone

A budget of up to 2500 euros will be available for the CSD event, with applications to the Partnership for Democracy to secure financial support. According to Driebusch, the aim is to establish a strong network with other CSD organizers in Falkensee and Stendal. Those interested in making contributions can contact the email address kijupa.rathenow@gmail.com. “Every contribution counts and helps us promote the visibility of the LGBTQ community,” adds the organizer.

Rathenow has indeed become colorful - and this will also be visible in the coming months as preparations for the CSD intensify. The event not only offers space for joy and celebration, but also for an important political discourse about the rights of LGBTQ people. Be there when Rathenow sets an example together on August 30th and lives diversity!
