Three police operations in Falkensee: escape, bather and bicycle theft!
On September 5, 2025, there was a bizarre incident involving a moped in the Falkensee district of Finkenkrug. A civilian police vehicle drew attention to a driver who was driving without a license plate. Instead of obeying the stop signals, the 16-year-old driver tried to flee. However, this ended abruptly when he collided with a fence and a stationary police vehicle. His attempts to escape on foot were also unsuccessful and the incorrigible youth was caught by the officers. The driver apparently did not take road safety very seriously, as neither a valid driving license nor insurance cover could be shown. The police initiated several criminal proceedings against him, as Rathenow24 reports.
Mopeds are popular in Germany for short journeys, require less parking space and can be driven with a special driving license, class AM. According to ADAC, this category is intended for vehicles with a maximum speed of 45 km/h. Strict regulations apply: an insurance license plate is mandatory, and driving without a license can have consequences. In the case of moped riders, this is not only a question of prestige but also of safety, especially for such young riders.
Comprehensive security precautions
The regulations surrounding mopeds are clearly defined and make a significant contribution to road safety. It is therefore crucial that mopeds are appropriately roadworthy and that the drivers wear a helmet, as this is required by law. Helmets are required on all journeys and it is important that vehicles have a valid insurance license plate. Motor vehicle liability insurance is essential as it covers damage that drivers could cause to other road users.
As far as the driving license required to carry out such journeys is concerned, in Germany you can acquire class AM from the age of 15, as the Verkehrswacht informs. This includes both theoretical and practical training content, with a theoretical test with 30 questions and a practical driving test required.
Incidents and Injuries
Another incident occurred on the same day in Brandenburg an der Havel, where a 42-year-old car driver collided with a teenage pedestrian. The driver was traveling at low speed and was therefore able to avoid serious injuries. The girl suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. It is still being determined whether this was due to a safety violation by the driver.
In another case in Wustermark, the police were informed about the theft of two electric bicycles. Unknown perpetrators had forcibly removed the safety devices. Such incidents highlight the challenges authorities face.
In summary, it can be said that the regulations for mopeds are important not only for the safety of the drivers, but also for all other road users. It is up to the legislature and the institutions to check compliance with these regulations and, if necessary, to ensure that the dangers of road traffic are minimized.
