Heart specialist Stockburger: Nauen relies on first-class cardiology!

The people of Koblenz can breathe a sigh of relief because there is a new contact person for cardiovascular diseases at the Havelland Clinics in Nauen. Prof. Dr. med. Martin Stockburger, chief physician for internal medicine since 2012, is committed to equal medical care in rural regions. After all, cardiovascular diseases such as coronary heart disease and heart attack are the most common cause of death in Germany, responsible for around 40% of all deaths. It is not for nothing that this area is his hobby.

After a slightly late start - Stockburger arrived 20 minutes late for the interview due to a lengthy telephone conference - he has a lot to report. He has gained a lot of experience since his time as a senior physician at the Berlin Charité, where he worked for over a decade. Its goal is to strengthen medical care in rural areas and offer patients high-quality treatments that are in no way inferior to urban standards.

Expansion of cardiology

Under his leadership, the Department of Cardiology has made significant progress. For example, six new cardiologists were trained and two modern cardiac catheter laboratories were integrated. There are currently 38 bed spaces available on the ward. The numbers speak for themselves: around 4,200 inpatients are cared for every year, more than half of whom suffer from cardiovascular diseases.

Stockburger reports that a typical working day begins at 7 a.m. with a team meeting and rounds in the intensive care unit. Treatments, minimally invasive examinations and the placement of pacemakers and defibrillators are carried out here. “We invest a lot of time and effort in our patients,” says the chief physician, whose working days often last 10 to 12 hours, including administrative tasks.

Equivalent medical care

Stockburger pays particular attention to the upcoming changes in hospital medicine, which are characterized by models such as hybrid DRGs. This is intended to help further optimize care and provide all patients with the best possible care. Despite these challenges, he remains optimistic and, on a tour of his simply furnished office, shows how important the focus on patient care is to him.

At a time when healthcare provision is becoming increasingly complex, it is crucial that people in rural areas are not disadvantaged. With the commitment of experts like Prof. Dr. Stockburger, the region can rely on stable cardiological care.

Meanwhile, there are also completely different topics that concern the people of Cologne. On the one hand, online games like Drift boss growing in popularity, where players master an endless road with a single button. On the other hand, there are also technical challenges in everyday life, such as when using WhatsApp web, which can be frustrating at times. But no matter whether in the health sector or in the digital world – people remain resilient.
