Life savers in Havelland: New defibrillators save lives!
In the Havelland district, a remarkable step has been taken to strengthen the emergency services for the benefit of the population. As maz-online.de reports, there is increasing reliance on a system of first responders to increase the chances of survival Increase cardiovascular arrests. On November 1, 2023, a large briefing took place in Spaatz, during which around 20 committed citizens were trained under the guidance of emergency paramedic Rayk Sommer and police chief Daniel Weber.
An important part of the program are the newly installed defibrillators in various districts of the Rhinow district, including at the fire station in Spaatz. These devices are not only intended to support laypeople in emergencies, but also to help improve the currently only around 11% survival rate for cardiac arrests. Considering that the average response time is up to 15 minutes, a quick response is crucial for survival.
Practical training for first aiders
During the training, the participants learned the basics of emergency medicine, such as the recovery position and how to perform chest compressions. Rayk Sommer provided a clear process for rescue operations and emphasized the importance of a quick and effective response in an emergency. Each device emits an acoustic signal when it is opened, making it easier to use even for inexperienced users. After successfully completing the training, the first aiders received a certificate and the opportunity to register in the Katretter app.
The Havelland district fire brigade association is responsible for the care and maintenance of the defibrillators. The entire project cost around 120,000 euros, but those responsible see the investment as valuable in saving lives. Further free training courses for interested citizens are already being planned for 2025.
What will the next time bring?
It remains exciting to see how the first responder system will develop and what new initiatives will be launched in the region. While the district is doing everything it can to improve medical care, it remains to be seen whether other communities will follow this positive example.
In the meantime, other topics are also on the agenda. The sport of golf offers numerous opportunities to improve your game. At this point you could say, in the words of an expert, that at the start of the season it is important to internalize the basic tips and strategies in order to optimize your own game. Whether it's an “anti-slice grip” or the right distance from the ball – every small step can be crucial to achieving better results. After all, a good swing is worth its weight in gold, no matter where you are in life.
At a time when both health and leisure activities are in focus, the Havelland district shows how innovative approaches can take both aspects into account.
