District police officer Stefan Mießner: Safety in Schönwalde-Glien in focus!
In Schönwalde-Glien, where the rural tranquility is threatened by a growing wave of crime, district police officer Stefan Mießner tirelessly stands by the residents. The Kyritz native has been working in the small community for four years, having previously worked in Brieselang. Mießner provides residents with advice and assistance, answers questions from day trippers and takes care of citizens' concerns. He appreciates life in the village and, above all, the opportunity to organize his time flexibly.
“What have you actually done in the last year?” could be the question that many citizens ask him. Mießner conducted follow-up investigations, secured leads and was involved in supra-regional operations, such as the raid against a suspected Reich citizen in January 2025. Numerous fine notices fluttered onto his desk - often to companies whose employees were traveling too fast. Notices of unpaid fines are commonplace for him, and in a single, notable mission, he fired his service weapon only once in his 29 years of service.
Crime statistics are cause for concern
The recently published crime statistics for 2023 show a worrying increase in crimes in Germany to 5.941 million cases, the highest level since 2016. This increase of 5.5% compared to the previous year is also reflected in the neighborhood. Physical injuries and neighbor disputes remain frequent problems in Schönwalde-Glien, and the district police officer notices that more and more homeowners are installing alarm systems and surveillance cameras. “A temporary shot from the hand of a police officer is probably the last resort I would resort to,” said Mießner, who himself recently helped in a wildlife accident.
The crime statistics show not only the increase in violent crime, but also in theft. With 1.97 million registered cases and an increase of 10.7% compared to 2022, there is movement among both German and non-German suspects.
Special forces and secured sham weapons
But it is not only in Schönwalde-Glien that there are mostly peaceful scenarios. An incident during a residential search in the region highlights the increasing challenges for the police. How cityreport.pnr24-online.de According to reports, a 29-year-old man, who is probably part of the Reichsbürger scene, attacked a special forces officer when he tried to search his living quarters. Several apparent weapons and related accessories were seized. Fortunately, the police did not suffer any serious injuries during the operation. An injured suspect was treated in hospital, but the investigation into weapons law violations has only just begun.
Mießner himself approaches the citizens of Schönwalde-Glien with a mixture of professionalism and empathetic understanding in order to take their security concerns seriously. He himself considers the number of burglaries in the community to be “not excessively high”, but he sees most of the potential crimes in recent years in a very similar light to that of 20 years ago: Midgard protects the neighborhood.
The ongoing efforts of the police and the accuracy of crime statistics show that the situation is fluid, but there is a well-trained team dedicated to keeping the community safe. Let’s improve safety in and around Schönwalde-Glien!
