SPD urgently calls for measures for more traffic safety in Mögelin!
In Mögelin, the safety of road users, especially children, is currently the focus of discussion. The SPD Havelland took up the issue surrounding the B102 after concerned parents pointed out the dangerous conditions on their children's way to school. Here, little pedestrians have to cross the busy street, which always causes concern. A sad incident in 1999, in which a pedestrian was killed, casts a shadow over safety in the area. The catalog of measures that was then introduced led to the speed limit being limited to 50 km/h within the town.
But the situation remains tense: within a range of 1.5 km, the permitted speed changes back and forth between 70 km/h and 50 km/h. Even if the law exists, many drivers regularly exceed the speed limits and speed up to 100 km/h. The SPD MP Katja Poschmann has therefore asked Minister Detlef Tabbert questions to demand measures to improve road safety. There are reports that the lower road traffic authority has already initiated a review of the accident hotspots, but the results are still awaited.
Responsibility and measures for road safety
In the sense of Vision Zero, which aims to ensure that there are no deaths or serious injuries in road traffic, cooperation between the federal, state and local authorities is crucial. This project calls for a reduction in traffic deaths in Germany by 40% by 2030. To achieve this, various strategies are in use that reach down to the local level.
An important instrument here is the local accident commission, which deals intensively with the accident clusters. It consists of employees from the road traffic and road construction authorities as well as the police and has set itself the goal of eliminating such dangers. In addition, traffic shows are held every two years to check the condition of the road infrastructure. Public relations and traffic safety concepts support these initiatives and ensure that citizens are involved and potential danger spots are known.
Statistical basis for security
The data on traffic safety is of central importance for the measures and their effectiveness. The Traffic accident statistics offers comprehensive and up-to-date information about accidents, casualties and their causes. This data is not only crucial for politics, but also for the practical implementation of road safety measures.
The results of the statistics support the assessment of risks and help in planning legal framework conditions and in designing safe transport infrastructures. By precisely analyzing the accident situation, targeted measures can be taken to sustainably increase road safety.
The focus on Mögelin remains an important step in ensuring the safety of the children on their way to school. Those responsible hope that the results of the reviews will be available soon so that they can act effectively and address the urgent need to reassess speed limits.
