There is good news for the residents of Wolsier: the long-neglected local church is to be revived and converted into a “Star Church”. The Leader Working Group (LAG) Havelland has selected numerous projects to apply for EU funding. A particularly hot topic is the renovation of the church, which has been severely affected since it was last used in autumn 2018 maz-online.de reported.
The mayor of Havelaue and mayor of Wolsier, Bill Neubüser, supported the project from the start. In order to advance the project, the “Church and Village of Wolsier” association was founded, whose chairwoman, Merit Schambach, underlines the importance of the funding for the revival of the church. Cultural heritage in focus
The history of Wolsier Church is diverse and can be traced back to 1526, when a bell with the inscription “DI MI HEBBEN DOEN MAKEN GOD LAETSE INHEMELRlCK GHERAKEN.ANNO DOMINI MCCCCCXXVI” was installed in the tower, as shown on wolsier.de is held. The patronage of Albrecht Ludwig von der Hagen was recorded in the church accounts book in 1710, and the walls tell of many ups and downs over the centuries.
The church, which is over 270 years old, is in urgent need of renovations, including the west facade and tower. The estimated costs for the first construction phase amount to around 129,500 euros. Various funding programs could be used here, such as: financial support for funding programs for church buildings, play a crucial role. For example, the German Foundation for Monument Protection offers support and a subsidy of up to 50% of the costs of restoration.
Various events are currently planned to take place in the church after the renovation. A children's cinema under the star-studded sky, cultural events and scientific events are conceivable, which could make the region even more attractive for visitors. The association has already started fundraising campaigns to secure its own contribution. One campaign, the “Three Church Run”, has already raised 1,800 euros for the project and shows the great commitment in the community.

The idea of revitalizing the church as a star church should not only benefit the community, but also attract tourists and enable Wolsier's cultural heritage to be experienced. This could also include the integration of sleeping facilities for pilgrims. The association continues to actively seek additional donors to advance the renovation and preserve this historic site for intergenerational use.
