Lausitz Festival 2025: Cultural highlights for all senses until September 14th.

The Lausitz Festival opened its sixth season on August 24th, 2025 and runs until September 14th. More than 30 events are offered in southern Brandenburg and eastern Saxony. The events range from theater to dance, readings to concerts and exhibitions and represent an exciting mix for those interested in culture. The initially redesigned festival series brings a breath of fresh air to the region and presents fascinating productions at a total of 20 different locations, including the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater Görlitz-Zittau and that Cottbus State Theater.

Dramas such as the play “Sonettfabrik”, performed by Crispin Hausmann and Klaudia Sobota in the oldest functioning briquette factory in the world, reflect the creative spirit. The head of the Brandenburg State Chancellery, who also spoke at the opening, emphasized that the festival stands for “quality in change” and that Lusatia has developed as an inspiring cultural region.

Diverse program and topics

In total, the festival includes 31 performances, half of which were created specifically for this event. Thematically, this year's festival is based on the word "unconscious", which means the continuation of the idea of last year's "otherself". An exciting discourse about the self in the other and the other in me is initiated, with the focus on people and thus on the individual self.

The planned events are not only intended for locals, but also invite visitors from other regions to explore the diversity of Lusatia and experience the local culture. Anyone interested could attend the programs, such as theater, music and literary events over the next few weeks - a real feast for the senses.

Cultural highlights in the area

Parallel to the Lausitz Festival, numerous cultural highlights will also take place in the area this Sunday. These include the city and harbor festival in Wittenberge as well as the culture and art festival in Frankfurt (Oder). Here are some of the events starting at 11 a.m. and later:

  • Filmfrühstück: Happy End, Kleist-Festtage Frankfurt (Oder)
  • Klassik ohne Grenzen mit Werken von Vivaldi, Grieg, Chopin in Zernikow
  • Abwechslung ist die Seele der Musik beim Choriner Musiksommer in Chorin
  • Die Streiche des Scapin im DAS HAUS Niedergörsdorf

These events show that not only the Lausitz Festival offers an attractive cultural program, but that the entire region is lively and appealing.

Enjoy the cultural highlights of Lusatia and let yourself be carried away by the events until September 14th!
