Brandenburg: Severe storm warnings – Did we get off lightly?
The weather situation in Brandenburg remains challenging. On July 22, 2025, severe weather warnings were issued, but the night brought largely calm conditions. According to maz-online.de, the fire brigades often had to be deployed, especially in the Oder-Spree, Märkisch-Oderland and Frankfurt (Oder) districts. Between 30 and 40 missions were counted there, mainly because of flooded cellars and streets.
The emergency services also had to take action in the Spree-Neiße, Oberspreewald-Lausitz, Dahme-Spreewald, Elbe-Elster area and in the city of Cottbus. The situation was comparable in Cottbus; here, too, the reason for the operations was the flooding of streets and cellars. Fortunately, no weather-related incidents were reported in the Teltow-Fläming, Potsdam-Mittelmark and Brandenburg/Havel regions.
Weather forecast and severe weather warnings
Despite the night having been comparatively mild so far, the warning situation was serious. The German Weather Service (DWD) had issued the highest warning level for heavy rain and thunderstorms. The severe weather center also confirmed the situation in its warning forecasts, which list types of severe weather such as storms, heavy rain and thunderstorms. Particular attention was paid to the affected areas, which include the Prignitz, the Ruppin district, the Uckermark, the Havelland and the Barnim. Advance warnings are issued up to 48 hours in advance, acute warnings confirm the occurrence of the dangerous situation, as can also be read at unwetterzentrale.de.
On Tuesday morning the weather will be unsettled thanks to a pressurized low. Up to 35 liters of rain per square meter can fall in the northeast, and thunderstorms with local heavy rain cannot be ruled out. Wind peaks between 70 and 80 km/h could cause additional restrictions in the region. Over the course of the afternoon, thunderstorms are also possible in the southern half, but these are expected to subside in the evening, as the DWD explains in its warning situation report.
Public events affected
The current weather conditions also have an impact on the cultural landscape. In Berlin and Brandenburg, numerous open-air concerts were canceled, which particularly affected the organizers and artists. The cultural highlights had to be canceled due to the uncertain weather conditions, which disappointed many fans.
In summary, the situation in Brandenburg remains tense. The public is asked to continue to monitor current weather warnings and prepare accordingly for the changeable conditions. Further showers and thunderstorms are expected over the next few hours, which could continue to keep emergency services on their toes.
