From hospital to health campus: Seelow is breaking new ground!
A lot is happening in Seelow: The hospital, which currently has 90 beds, is undergoing a comprehensive renovation and is being transformed into a modern “health campus”. This transformation process includes several exciting innovations on the agenda that are intended to sustainably improve medical care in the region. The plans include reducing the number of inpatient beds to just 30, while additional short-term care and an outpatient surgery center will be created. This is a sustainable concept that puts the needs of the population first.
The new outpatient services that will be available on the health campus are particularly important. These include, among other things, specialist consultations, physiotherapy as well as a pharmacy and a medical supply store. This was also described as “exemplary” by Brandenburg’s Health Minister Britta Müller. Müller emphasized the importance of cooperation and communication between all those involved in order to shape this transformation process together.
The quiet renovation and positive feedback
In contrast to other locations in Brandenburg, where heated debates about the future of the hospitals took place, the renovation in Seelow is being carried out quietly. District Administrator Gernot Schmidt (SPD) emphasizes the inclusion of all political actors in this process. This caused a positive response in the region because there were no discussions about the locations of the three municipal hospitals in the district: Seelow, Wriezen and Strausberg. The discussion is all the more focused on the remunicipalization of the emergency service and the need to offer specialist consultations in rural areas.
A concrete example of the implementation of these goals is illustrated by a gynecologist from Strausberg, who will be practicing regularly in Seelow in the future. This is an important step to strengthen local medical care and give citizens a feeling of security.
Comprehensive hospital reform in Brandenburg
The renovation of the hospital in Seelow is part of the comprehensive efforts to reform the healthcare system in Brandenburg. The aim of this reform is to create needs-based solutions that promote citizens' trust in medical care. Changes in the healthcare system often lead to fears and uncertainties, so it is essential to communicate these changes transparently and accompany them together.
The Ministry of Health has therefore initiated close dialogues with all those involved in health care. Regional conferences in which hospital authorities, the Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, health insurance companies and municipalities took part are an important part of the reform. The last of these conferences took place in fall 2023. Dialogue forums on outpatient and inpatient capacities have also been planned for 2024 in each care area. The aim is to ensure a joint planning process for the future of hospitals.
The developments in Seelow clearly show that constructive cooperation sets the course for better health care. The coming months and years will show how the health campus will have a positive impact on the region.
