News from Brandenburg: Trams are on strike, Dragon Boat World Cup starts!
In Brandenburg an der Havel, the first two new Škoda trams are struggling with a problem: one of the braking systems has defects that now urgently need to be corrected. This reports maz-online.de. The ultra-modern trams were intended to replace the aging tram fleet, which carries around eight million passengers per year. The manufacturer Škoda-Transportation is now under pressure to correct the deficiencies not only in Brandenburg, but also in other cities. A possible price discussion about the new trains could also get rolling.
Parallel to these challenges, major celebrations are taking place in the region. The Lauschkultur association's radio play weekend will take place in the Slavendorf on July 19th and 20th. A varied program awaits listeners young and old, including a live radio play for adults. The band Keimzeit will also be giving a concert on Saturday at Eisenhardt Castle in Bad Belzig, where around 1,000 visitors will celebrate with new and newly interpreted songs. Admission costs 33 euros in advance and 45 euros at the box office.
Dragon Boat World Cup 2025: A mega event for the region
Another highlight in Brandenburg an der Havel is just around the corner: The 17th IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championships will stop at Beetzsee between July 14th and 20th, 2025. More than 4,600 participants from 33 countries are expected, making this championship the largest since the founding of the IDBF brandenburger-regatten.de reported. Most of the field comes from the USA with 850 participants. Germany has a committed team of 436 participants who want to bravely assert themselves in the competitions.
On the regatta course at Beetzsee, however, it's not just about the paddles and the competitions - travel for spectators is also regulated. There will be special transport options from July 14th to 20th. Line P takes visitors from the train station directly to the regatta course, and on weekdays lines 1 and 6 as well as line C can be used for convenient travel, reports vbbr.de.
A total of 161 decisions will be made in different age groups and boat categories during the Dragon Boat World Championships. There is great enthusiasm and Michael Kenzler, 2nd chairman of the regatta team, is very optimistic about the course of this holiday week, which will not only captivate the competitors but also the entire region.
