Oranienburg, Deutschland - am F.F. Runge Gymnasium in Oranienburg there is a lot of music. The committed teacher Michael Frentz has been leading the Oranienburg Hoforchester here for 28 years. Even if Frentz teaches the subjects of religion, philosophy and old languages, his heart beats for music - especially for punk and hard rock. He used to be on stage as a drummer and guitarist. Since 1997, together with his students, he has been rehearsing rhythms for the Carnival of Cultures in Berlin, where the orchestra began. Frentz firmly believes in the importance of live music and cultural diversity in the training of the students. With a weekly rehearsal effort of three and a half hours, the orchestra attaches great importance to musical development. In addition, the teacher invests his own money in instruments and technology, because the school's budget is often not enough. Another highlight at Frentz's commitment are the planned canoe tours and ski hikes, in which he offers the students the opportunity to be active outside of everyday school life. As he himself notes, there are clear differences between those who are involved in leisure activities and those who spend countless hours online. This kind of experiences is intended to encourage students to discover the world away from screens and to experience the advantages of the community.
In the first week of vacation, Frentz plans a canoe tour with 40 students to Poland, the next step in his endeavor to offer its students a varied and active life.
