Idyll or noise? Leeskow's village community discusses wind power dispute!

In Leeskow, a small community in the beautiful Lusatian Lake District, neighbors gathered on Saturday to reflect on the past week. The community, which was created from the merger of Bahnsdorf, Lindchen, Lubochow and Ressen and has existed since 2002, has around 550 residents. Despite the idyllic location and the strong solidarity among the residents, there are also challenges that shape everyday life. Discussion around wind power has increased significantly in the region recently, particularly since plans were unveiled for some of the world's tallest wind turbines. Resident Jenny Frank, who has lived in the community for six years, is thrilled with the new location of the bus stop, which is now on a quieter street. However, Martina Huelse notes that cell phone reception in the area often leaves something to be desired. “Sometimes you just have to go out on the street to get reception,” she says – a situation that many people from rural areas know all too well.

Despite these small challenges, the people of Leeskow appreciate their quiet environment and the surrounding nature. The landscape, characterized by rolling hills and extensive forests, offers residents a relaxing retreat from hectic everyday life. It's not just the beautiful nature that keeps the residents; The strong sense of community and positive interaction between the districts give people a feeling of safety and security.

The future of Lusatia

Lusatia has the potential to play a key role in the energy transition in the future. Forecasts show that electricity production from wind power could reach four times current levels by 2040. Overall, the future looks promising for Leeskow and the entire Lusatia. It remains to be seen whether the challenges of noise from wind turbines and the need for better mobile phone reception can be solved. One thing is certain, however: In Leeskow there is a community that sticks together - and that is the best basis for all future developments.
