District council in Klettwitz: KiFö, climate protection and major challenges!
On June 26, 2025, an exciting meeting of the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district council was held in the Klettwitz cultural center. The agenda included 25 items, including 20 draft resolutions, and offered the at least 16 MPs present a lot of material for discussion. Under the leadership of the oldest district council member, Joachim Noack, there were a few burning issues on the table that greatly affect the region's citizens.
One of the highlights was the residents’ question time. Here, the district parents' council expressed its concerns about the state budget for 2025/2026 and asked questions about democracy projects, climate change and disaster protection. Citizens' concerns and ideas were heard and underline the importance of an open culture of discussion in the district.
Climate protection and new perspectives
Another crucial point of the meeting was the introduction of Denis Junge, the district's new climate protection manager. His main task will be to promote the implementation of international climate protection agreements at the local level. At lr-online.de it is emphasized that the focus will be on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Junge is working on a climate protection concept that will serve as a strategic model for the sustainable development of the district.
The need for such a commitment is also reflected in the adopted “Integrated Climate Protection Concept”. With project costs of 189,000 euros, the aim is to run until August 31, 2025 in order to clearly define local climate goals and develop measures to reduce energy consumption. The support from the municipal guidelines of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection will make this possible.
Household questions and reviews
During the budget debate, the tense financial conditions were also discussed. According to the information provided, a deficit of 33.2 million euros was identified for 2025 and 45.7 million euros for 2026. In response to this, it was decided to increase the district levy by 0.5% for both years. The district council confirmed the need for measures to reduce expenses and increase income in the budget security concept.
At this point we also remembered Dr. Jürgen Störmer talks about the region's cultural successes - such as the 25th anniversary of the chamber orchestra and notable successes in "Jugend musiziert". These successes show how important cultural education is in the district and should continue to be supported in the future.
New faces in the district council
A striking event was the signing of the new district council members, who will now be active in various factions. The CDU/FWB/FDP has 13 members, while the SPD has 9 members. This new composition of the district council should help to represent regional concerns in a committed manner over the next five years, as reported on wochenkurier.info.
The next meeting of the district council will take place on September 19th in Lübbenau/Spreewald and promises just as much attention to the citizens' concerns. Citizens can also look forward to open discussion and transparent participation in the future, as invitations to public meetings are open to all interested parties.
Overall, the district council meeting shows how complex the challenges are for the district and that the stakeholders in the district council want a good handle on the big issues of the future. Let's stay tuned to see how the new initiatives and decisions will positively shape the region.
