District Administrator visits Kaufland: A look at the future of logistics in Lübbenau!

On Friday, July 25, 2025, District Administrator Sigurd Heinze paid a visit to the Kaufland logistics center VZ2 GmbH & Co KG in Lübbenau/Spreewald. He was accompanied by Mayor Helmut Wenzel and economic developer Marcus Ott. The occasion was not only a formal reception, but also an opportunity to recognize the company's important role in the region and to look at future challenges. The logistics center has continuously developed since it opened in 1996 and today stands not only for efficiency, but also for innovation.

New managing director Robert Pelsis, who has been in office since March 1, 2025, brings eleven years of experience from various Kaufland locations. His goal is to continue to relocate the location and not only maintain the number of employees of around 1,100, but possibly expand them. Kaufland is therefore a significant employer in the region, which is of great relevance given the notable shortage of skilled workers and managers in the logistics industry.

Positive outlook and challenges

As osl-online.de reports, those responsible are optimistic about the next few years. The site's 30th anniversary will be celebrated in 2026, and the recent investment in a photovoltaic system on 72,000 square meters is evidence of the desire to operate in a more environmentally friendly way. A third of the electricity generated is used for self-sufficiency, which supports Kaufland's sustainability efforts.

But the skills shortage remains a critical challenge. [Verkehrsrundschau.de](https://www.verkehrsrundschau.de/nachrichten/transport-logistik/fachkraefte Mangel-in-der-logistik-haelt-an-personalstrategie-zweien-effekt-3569223) reports on a survey that shows that 70 percent of logistics companies complain about this shortage. Industrial specialists, professional drivers and IT specialists are particularly sought after. Companies are trying to counteract this trend with increased investments in digitalization and automation.

Attractive working conditions at Kaufland

In order to attract the best talent, Kaufland has implemented various measures that go beyond the standard. The job offer at Kaufland Career lists, among other things, attractive salaries, vacation and Christmas bonuses as well as employee discounts. Flexibility is very important: Employees benefit from flexible working hours, 6 weeks of vacation per year and respectful cooperation that is rooted in the corporate culture.

There are also numerous benefits such as subsidies for late shifts and Sunday work as well as health promotion offers such as ergonomic technology in the workplace. Employees are encouraged to recommend other colleagues and receive a bonus if the recommendation is successful.

The combination of innovative investments, flexible working models and a positive working atmosphere could be the key to overcoming current and future challenges in logistics. With a strong focus on the future and a holistic approach to recruiting skilled workers, Kaufland has the potential to continue to play a central role in the Lübbenau/Spreewald region in the coming years.
