OSL music school celebrates success: Anna Arakelyan shines in Wuppertal!
The OSL music school can be happy: its student Anna Arakelyan performed impressively at the national competition “Jugend musiziert” in Wuppertal. With 22 points she won second prize in the vocal (pop) solo category. The event traditionally took place over Pentecost, from June 5th to 11th, 2025, and attracted talented young musicians from all over Germany as well as German schools abroad. Around 2,000 participants and around 10,000 visitors were expected, making the competition a real stage for young musicians. [Jugend musiziert] reports that a total of 1,250 competition games took place at 20 venues in Wuppertal, with 130 jurors evaluating the performances.
Anna Arakelyan didn't just enter the race. Her path began with an excellent performance at the regional competition, which she won in January with first prize and 25 points. She shone again at the state competition in Eberswalde, which took place in March, also scoring 25 points and first place in the “Singing Pop Solo” category. She also received a special prize for the highest score in her category, which qualified her directly for the national competition. Ulrich Stein, the head of the OSL music school, congratulated Anna on behalf of the institution on her remarkable success and also praised the excellent pedagogy of her singing teacher Christin Muschter.
A festival of talent
The national competition “Jugend musiziert” is not just a platform for lone wolves. The evaluations are divided into different categories: In addition to the solo evaluations in singing (pop), there were also competitions in string instruments, percussion, mallets and various ensemble formations. The event is supported by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as well as various local partners, such as the Rotary Club of Wuppertal and the Stadtsparkasse Wuppertal. On July 5, 2025, the young music scene can even expect a concert by the special prize winners in the Beethoven House in Bonn, so there is even more music waiting for the fans!
Another highlight were the award winners' concerts in the historic town hall, in which outstanding achievements were celebrated. Those who are very popular in the music scene had to prove themselves on different stages and were able to show their skills in 1,157 public competitions. The special prizes are endowed with a total of around EUR 160,000 – a real motivation for the talented musicians! The competition is sponsored by the German Music Council and is considered one of the most important platforms for promoting young musical talent.
In summary, the successes of Anna Arakelyan and her music school OSL not only honor individuals, but also point to the valuable work that goes into supporting young musicians. Cologne's talent promotion seems to be on the right track, and it will be interesting to see what other great achievements can be expected from this region in the future.
