Senftenberg is looking for committed arbitrators for neighborhood disputes!

A new arbitrator is currently being sought in Senftenberg to deal with neighborhood disputes and actively contribute to conflict avoidance. Currently, six dedicated arbitrators are already helping citizens resolve their minor disputes in a civilized manner. The responsible arbitration board 3 includes the districts of Brieske, Großkoschen, Hosena, Niemtsch and Peickwitz. This initiative is crucial to avoid escalations and promote neighborly cooperation. The city of Niederlausitz Aktuell informs that applications can be submitted until August 15, 2025.

But what exactly can applicants expect in this volunteer role? To serve as an arbitrator, candidates should have people skills, patience and authority. Other important qualities include empathy and enough time to understand citizens' concerns. Special legal training is not necessary - rather, personal life experience is valued. Interested parties should be at least 25 years old and reside in the district of the arbitration board.

The process and requirements

The procedure is particularly important for smaller disputes such as damage to property and disturbances of the peace; On average, around two arbitration proceedings take place every year. These arbitration negotiations aim to reach a settlement that is acceptable to both parties, which is often a great relief for those involved. The number of arbitration proceedings is specified by the Arbitration Office, arbitration boards represent a significant relief for the courts.

The elected arbitrator and his deputy will be elected for five years, probably on October 1, 2025 in the city council. An important point is that all settlements reached in arbitration are enforceable. Confidentiality is also one of the fundamental duties of an arbitrator.

Arbitrators in Germany

Arbitrators play a central role in conflict resolution in Germany. They are enshrined in law in 12 federal states and are elected by local parliaments. In Saxony they are referred to as justices of the peace and make a significant contribution to the mediation culture. The success rate in arbitration negotiations is on average around 50% and shows how important this institution is in our society. The Association of German Arbitrators, founded in 1950, also promotes the training and further education of arbitrators in order to constantly expand their skills and increase the quality of their work.

Anyone who dares to act as an arbitrator has the opportunity to actively contribute to the community and shape neighborhood relations positively. Anyone interested should act quickly: applications are welcome until August 15, 2025.
