Secure your future: New educational opportunities in the Oberspreewald!

A promising initiative was recently launched in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district. On August 27, 2025, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Oberspreewald-Lausitz job center and the district's basic education center. The aim of this collaboration is to strengthen educational opportunities and participation opportunities for citizens in the region and, in particular, to better support people with literacy and basic education needs. This step could prove crucial for many who often encounter hurdles in their everyday lives.

At the signing ceremony, Christian Napp, the managing director of the job center, emphasized the great importance of basic education for social and community participation. “There is great potential here that we can exploit together,” said Napp. The agreement focuses on identifying basic education needs at an early stage and thus facilitating access to the basic education center's offerings.

Tailored help

One of the central measures of this cooperation is that the job center actively informs its customers about the learning opportunities offered by the basic education center. The goal is to create tailor-made learning opportunities for adults who have difficulties reading, writing, arithmetic or using digital media. The basic education center is a central contact point and offers free educational opportunities, advice and low-threshold learning formats in order to make the topic of basic education visible to the public. About 1 in 8 adults in Germany have login problems with basic reading and writing skills, often due to a lack of support in childhood or health problems.

The last signing took place in Senftenberg, and in addition to Napp, those present included Maria Kühnel, the facility manager of the district adult education center, as well as the equal opportunities officer and other leaders of the job center, including Dr. Cindy Hader, the project manager of the basic education center. A highlight of the agreement is the planned direct advice from employees of the basic education center, which will take place on the premises of the job center - a further step towards creating low-threshold offers.

Public relations and networking

At a time when education and literacy are more important than ever, both partners are also committed to public education. The topics of basic education and literacy will receive more attention in the coming years through jointly organized events. Necessary further education and training should also help to further identify the need for basic education in the region and to provide suitable educational opportunities.

The OSL basic education center works closely with local partners from administration, companies and associations to create a network that makes it possible to reach affected people who cannot take part in the offers due to their living circumstances, such as financial difficulties or health problems. This initiative also has financial support from the European Union and the state of Brandenburg, among others.

With this cooperation, those involved are sending a strong signal for more equal opportunities and an inclusive society. Because education is the key to better participation in social life.
