Firecracker madness in Woldegk: Two men threaten the police!
In the early morning of July 17, 2025, an incident occurred in Woldegk that attracted the attention of the police. Shortly after midnight, officers from the Friedland district noticed the loud bang of New Year's Eve rockets being ignited. A patrol immediately set out to search for the firecrackers who had appeared in a side street. Two men aged 36 and 22 were found there throwing a firecracker onto the street.
The situation quickly escalated when the two men became aggressive towards the police officers, insulting and threatening them. A criminal investigation into illegal throwing of firecrackers as well as threats and insults was initiated, but fortunately no one was injured. According to Cityreport everyone involved is German.
Incidents in other cities
However, Woldegk is not the only town where dangerous situations arose during New Year's Eve. In Hanover, for example, the police reported that New Year's Eve 2024/2025 was comparatively quiet there, at least until 10 p.m. From this point on, the fire department was constantly busy due to several container fires. Nevertheless, there were some incidents here too, including attacks on emergency services using pyrotechnics. A 14-year-old suffered a serious injury when he handled fireworks improperly and had to be taken to hospital. Kreiszeitung reported a total of 28 administrative offense proceedings and several firework ban zones.
Berlin also didn't have a quiet turn of the year. The police registered up to 1,453 crimes typical of New Year's Eve and here too recorded an increase compared to the previous year. Particularly noteworthy are the 58 attacks on police and rescue workers, of which 17 emergency services were injured, including eight due to pyrotechnics. Most of the crimes involved damage to property and violations of the weapons law, which makes the situation in the firecracker-prohibited zones appear even more dramatic. [RBB24].
These incidents show that, despite preventive measures and controls carried out by security services and the police, the responsible use of fireworks is not everywhere. While most of the celebrants remained peaceful, there were always black sheep, some of whom committed serious crimes and put not only themselves but also others in danger.
What does it look like when you combine the different events in the cities? It is becoming clear that the challenges facing emergency services are anything but small. It is to be hoped that the measures taken together to improve safety will be fruitful and such incidents will become less frequent in the future.
