Ironman 70.3 returns to Erkner: family celebration and closures!

Next weekend, Erkner will once again be the stage for the Ironman 70.3, which will make the hearts of sports enthusiasts beat faster on September 13th and 14th, 2025. Around 3,000 athletes from 72 nations have registered and will compete in the Erich Ring Stadium on Lake Dämeritz. The event promises not only exciting competitions, but also an extensive program for the whole family.

Particularly noteworthy is the large family festival, which also focuses on the younger visitors. Here you can look forward to 20 bouncy castles, a 45 meter long obstacle course, a giant slide, a pirate ship, a crocodile and a mini golf course. Even the older ones don't miss out: there are games of skill, bouncy horse races and a slackline. Your physical well-being is also taken care of: there are food options for every budget starting at 4 euros, ranging from ice cream and fries to burgers and bratwursts. The opening hours of the family festival are on Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Traffic disruptions for residents

Although the event will undoubtedly be a highlight for the region, residents should also keep an eye on the associated traffic disruptions. On Saturday, September 13th, there will be closures between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., while on Sunday traffic in Erkner city center will be affected from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Surrounding places such as Neu Zittau, Steinfurt, Burig, Hartmannsdorf, Spreenhagen and parts of Grünheide are also affected. In order to minimize disruption to residents, the streets will be temporarily closed to all traffic, even cyclists. The exact breakdown of the closure times can be found on the official website.

The barriers begin on Saturday at 8 a.m. and are set up 30 minutes before the important competition hours. The routes are released after the last participant has passed the finish, which is indicated by a vehicle with a green flag.

Local heroes and the importance of triathlon

In the triathlon scene, the Ironman is not just a competition, but also a platform for many athletes who want to test their limits and achieve new personal bests. An example of this is Carolin Lehrieder, who not only attracted attention through her successes, but also gained sponsors, which is an important source of support for many athletes. Their experiences show how important good placements at the right time are for a career in sports. Despite setbacks, she never gave up and plans to continue fighting for podiums in long-distance races in Germany.

The Ironman 70.3 in Erkner will not only be a spectacle for spectators, but also an important event for athletes who want to make their dreams come true. So if you want to spend the weekend in Erkner, you not only have the chance to watch exciting competitions, but also to experience the inviting atmosphere of a family festival!
