European Literature Festival: Neuruppin becomes a reading stage!
Neuruppin, the charming city of literature, is preparing for the upcoming European Literature Festival “Neben der Spur”, which is taking place for the twelfth time this year. From September 5th to 14th, 2025, the city will be transformed into a meeting place for those interested in literature from near and far. Curatorial responsibility lies in the hands of Peter Böthig and Otto Wynen, who offer a two-part program that brings together both established and emerging voices in literature. The goal is to present great literature in a relaxed atmosphere maz-online.de.
The opening reading will be opened on September 5th at 7 p.m. by the well-known American author Nell Zink, who will read from her work “Sister Europe”. Andreas Knaesche will be the moderator of the event in the Old Gymnasium. This is followed by further readings, which are supervised by top-class moderators from culture and media. Two readings are planned for September 6th: First at 3 p.m. Hans-Haiko Seifert with “Joanna” and at 7 p.m. Henning Ahrens with “Years between Dog and Wolf”. Both events also take place in the Old Gymnasium, which acts as the central event location.
A varied program
In the following days things continue in many different ways. On September 7th, David Finck will present his book “The Vertigo” in the Old Gymnasium at 11 a.m., while on September 12th, Katerina Poladjan will perform “Golden Sands” in the infirmary chapel from 7 p.m. A literary bike tour to Krangen and Alt Ruppin is planned for September 13th, starting with two readings and a coffee table from the school square. The reading by Nora Osagiobare with her piece “Daily Soap” will take place in the Krangen Church, followed by Leon Engler, who will read from “Botany of Madness” at 6:30 p.m. in the Alt Ruppin Church. The crowning conclusion of the festival is the reading by John von Düffel on September 14th at 11 a.m. in the Fontane bookstore, before Lennart Schaefer appears at 3 p.m. with the “Literadtour 2025”, which brings the festival to a fitting close.
The special thing about this festival is that four additional authors will read for young people at Neuruppin schools from September 15th to 26th. The ticket prices are quite moderate at 10 euros for adults and 5 euros reduced, and the tickets are available online and at various advance booking offices and box offices.
A celebration of literature
Particularly noteworthy is the collaboration with various funding partners, including the Ministry of Science, Research and Culture of the State of Brandenburg and the city of Neuruppin itself. The “Neben der Spur” literature festival is therefore not only a festival of creativity and inspiration, but also an important hub for cultural exchange and literary encounters, as fontane-kosmos.de shows.
Be there when Neuruppin becomes the first address for literature lovers from September 5th to 14th and up-and-coming and established authors come together in a creative setting. An unforgettable experience for everyone who appreciates the written word!
