Heat warning for Ostprignitz-Ruppin: How to protect yourself effectively!
The heat is getting to us! With temperatures of up to 34 degrees in Neuruppin, the German Weather Service has issued a clear warning. Summer is in full bloom, but the heat wave not only brings sunshine but also health risks. According to WHO, older people, small children and people with chronic illnesses are particularly at risk. Who wants to lose consciousness or even suffer a heat stroke in the blazing heat?
In Neuruppin they are aware of the problem and offer free drinking water points and cool retreats. Places such as the citizens' office and the monastery church are recommended to protect yourself from the oppressive heat. Measures such as drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing and staying in cooler rooms can help mitigate the effects of high temperatures.
Family centers at risk
But it's not just the current heat that's causing unrest in the region. The announced closure of four family centers in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district is causing a lack of understanding and resentment. Among those affected are the facilities “Oase” in Kyritz and “Mittendrin” in Wusterhausen, which, according to rbb, are due to close at the turn of the year. The managing director of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt, Katrin Nikiforow, blames increased personnel costs and the change in funding from the district.
Although the cities recorded over 5,500 visits to these centers in 2024, the administration justifies the closures with financial constraints. In other words, the funds are no longer flowing as planned. A reorganization of family assistance will be discussed in mid-September, and signatures against the closure are already being collected.
New local attractions and safety measures
While discussions about the family centers are ongoing, there is also positive news from Neuruppin: The new restaurant “ Lieferfritze ” is starting operations and now not only offers delivery services, but also seating for guests. Here, Cologne residents can refresh themselves after a hot day with burgers and salads. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday, with a tempting weekend lunch special.
Security is also a top priority in the region. Eleven new fire water wells are planned to minimize the risk of forest fires, which are increasing due to the ongoing heatwaves. At a time when the wildfire situation is more dangerous than ever, these measures should come as a relief to all citizens. Telekom has already approved a new transmission mast in Dranse to improve mobile phone coverage; after all, we want to be easily reachable in an emergency.
Although the temperatures are rising and with them the risks to health, the community in Ostprignitz-Ruppin is showing resilience. Especially in such challenging times, it is important to stick together and look after each other. So stay healthy, cool down well and take advantage of the numerous opportunities for relaxation and refreshment on offer!
