Neuruppin establishes migration advisory board: A new path to integration!

Something very special happened in Neuruppin on November 3, 2024: the city launched its first migration advisory board. This exhibition of diversity within the city is more than a symbolic step and shows that the issues of migration and integration are also taken seriously. With almost 2,600 people without German citizenship making up around 8% of the 32,000 inhabitants, it is time to make these voices heard. Loud MAZ Online The city councilors have recognized that the tasks of integration are too extensive for one individual. The new migration advisory board therefore brings a breath of fresh air into city politics.

This advisory board, consisting of three women and four men, is unique in Neuruppin and is intended to act as an interface between city politics and civil society. He not only gives people with a migrant background a voice, but also actively participates in the design of integration measures. However, the search for suitable living space remains a central problem. Mayor Nico Ruhle also addresses other challenges, such as rising rents, garbage and graffiti that tarnish the cityscape.

An advisory board for everyone

Alderman Daniela Kuzu, who has been in office since 2019, emphasizes the importance of creating a “welcoming culture” for migrants. The advisory board is intended to act as an advisor to the city council and contribute both creative ideas and practical solutions for integration. Daniela Kuzu and Integration Officer Martin Osinski actively participated in the formation of the committee, which was unanimously appointed on October 13, 2025. Particular attention was paid to gender parity and ethnic diversity.

Despite the enormous tasks that rested on the shoulders of the Migration Advisory Board, the members of clubs and organizations such as Esta Ruppin and the OPR district sports association were already receiving support in their integration efforts. The Migration Advisory Board reflects the concerns and concerns of migrants and incorporates these into political decisions.

The challenges of integration

One focus of the discussion is the challenges that integration brings with it. One point that is repeatedly raised is public safety, which has remained unchanged since 2015 despite the admission of hundreds of people in exceptional situations. The majority of people with a migrant background only stay in Neuruppin for two years on average, which is why it is all the more important to help them with housing and social connections right from the start.

Overall, the Migration Advisory Board is a step in the right direction for Neuruppin. With the commitment of various actors, it is intended to help better overcome the challenges of migration and promote long-term integration. The common goal remains clear: Neuruppin should become a place of diversity and togetherness that is worth living in for all citizens.
