Neuruppin's star high school graduate: Kimberly Schmidt is moving to Canada!
There is reason to be happy in Neuruppin: Kimberly Schmidt from Storbeck-Frankendorf passed her high school diploma at the Evangelical School with a brilliant 1.0. This makes her one of the best graduates of the year. The 18-year-old is not only academically successful, but also a passionate athlete. She has been actively playing volleyball in the club for several years and is involved in the district league. She has a big heart for animals and even owns her own horse.
But that's not all: During her school years, Kimberly also worked in the European Youth Parliament, where she took part in simulated parliamentary general assemblies. Her commitment shows how important it is for her to advocate for the needs of young people in her city. After graduating, she plans to stay at her school for six months to support the European project and physical education classes before going on a two-month trip to Canada in the fall. “I want to work on a ranch there and explore the mountains,” she explains enthusiastically.
Commitment to youth
In Neuruppin, young people have the opportunity to play an active role in shaping their city. The Children and Youth Parliament meets about once a month to discuss topics such as the design of the Jahnbad and offers in the multi-generational house. Anyone between the ages of 10 and 27 can get involved here, especially school representatives and youth firefighters. This offers young people the opportunity to contribute their ideas and concerns and to actively shape the future of their city.
Through her participation in the European Youth Parliament, Kimberly has certainly been inspired to take responsibility and help other young people raise their voices. Her positive memories of Neuruppin show how strongly she is connected to her homeland. “I feel safe here,” she emphasizes.
Looking into the future
Another big issue for Kimberly is choosing a course of study. She has chosen her desired subject of study, geography, as an advanced course, but she is worried that she will make the wrong decision. “I'm doing the Abitur for myself and not for others,” was the young graduate's self-confident final sentence. She is aware of how important education is for individual development and knows that a good school leaving certificate will significantly increase her chances on the job market.
General statistics show that the trends in the German educational landscape are increasingly positive: more and more young people are achieving the highest school qualification, the Abitur. The statistics illustrate that although the level of education in Germany varies, it is gratifying that more and more young people like Kimberly have the opportunity to enjoy a good education.
With her outgoing nature and desire to live in a small town, Kimberly has big plans for the future. “In five years I would like to have a dog,” she laughs, showing her joy of life and her connection to nature.
It is clear that Neuruppin is not only a city with talent, but also with a community that hears and values the voices of all young people. With Kimberly Schmidt, the city has a young personality who will enrich local life with her ideas and commitment.
