Neuruppin's road construction: major restrictions and new traffic lights from Monday!

In Neuruppin, residents and road users will face some changes in the coming weeks. The construction work on Ernst-Tollerstrasse and Steinstrasse not only brings new restrictions, but also long-term changes for the old town.

From Monday, November 17th, work will begin on installing a new traffic light to access the construction site. This measure is necessary because Steinstrasse will then be additionally closed. Ernst-Toller-Straße between Kulturhaus Stadtgarten and Steinstraße has been impassable since February. A complete redesign is being carried out here, which includes a new roadway, an improvement of the sidewalks and the creation of additional parking spaces for commuters, such as maz-online.de reported.

Detours and closures

Traffic flows will be redirected through the construction site. From Monday, construction site traffic for Ernst-Toller-Straße will roll over Straße des Friedens as well as Günther- and Hans-Thörner-Straße. The narrow Güntherstrasse in particular will be regulated with construction site traffic lights, which will certainly ensure additional patience among road users. The construction work on Ernst-Toller-Straße is scheduled to last until summer 2026 and the costs are estimated at around 4.1 million euros.

The municipal utilities have also announced that they will replace pipes and cables, some of which are buried up to four meters deep in the ground. However, the groundwater caused problems for the construction companies as the groundwater had to be lowered by over three and a half meters. Some street trees that were supposed to be preserved could no longer be saved due to drought and had to be felled.

Long-term planning and further construction work

At the same time, other extensive construction sites are also underway in Neuruppin. Since June 16, 2025, another large construction project has been started in the through town, which is scheduled to last until July 2027. The aim is to renew the substructure of the road as well as the pipes for water, gas and electricity, such as neuruppin.de notes.

These construction measures also include the renovation of sidewalks and cycle paths as well as the conversion of the Steinstrasse / Ernst-Toller-Strasse intersection into a roundabout. In addition, bus waiting areas are to be created and the safety of cyclists is to be increased through protective strips. New trees will be planted and additional parking spaces will be created.

In the next few weeks, the people of Neuruppin can look forward to many changes that will bring both challenges and opportunities. Let's hope that all construction measures progress quickly and in the interests of everyone involved!
