Protests against solar parks: Fretzdorf is fighting for a community center!
A lot is happening in the area of renewable energies in Brandenburg, but not all initiatives are met with approval. A particularly sensitive issue is the planned solar park in Fretzdorf, where the local population is negotiating financing for a village community center - and it has been waiting for completion for a whopping six years. Mayor Raimond Koop reports on an ambitious plan: A solar park with 170 hectares and a peak output of between 180 and 230 megawatts should have brought around 400,000 euros into the municipality's coffers annually, thanks to the solar euro introduced in 2023, which will pay 2,000 euros per installed megawatt to the municipalities in order to strengthen acceptance of the energy transition. maz-online reports.
But here's the rub: the Fretzdorf local council rejected the project, and the city council approved the decision. This means that the chances for the village community center are once again up in the air. There is similar resistance in other communities, such as in Märkisch Luch, where Mayor Volker Schönfeld had also hoped for income from solar parks, but failed due to a citizens' initiative that opposed the project. According to the Brandenburg Ministry of Economics, social support remains essential for the expansion of renewable energies.

The seventh solar park is being planned in Letschin, another affected community. The citizens' initiative “Energietisch Letschin” is calling for more benefits for the community and criticizing the current projects. Mayor Michael Böttcher has shown interest in cooperating with the initiative and is aiming to found a citizens' energy cooperative. In this way, consideration for local concerns in the energy sector could be improved.
Brandenburg success figures
Now decision-makers are faced with the challenge of not only accelerating the expansion, but also gaining acceptance among the population. The coming years will show whether the measures decided will pay off and how the citizens of Brandenburg can be included in the planning.
