SCL Lindow is fighting for its future: youth and sailing education in danger!
There's a lot going on in the heart of Lindow: The Lindow Sailing Club (SCL) is facing a serious challenge. The youth and club work of the club, which has 150 members, is in acute danger after it had to hand over the club premises to the Lindow Regatta sailors. This is reported by the maz-online.de.
Katrina Mixdorf, who led the SCL's youth work for many years, has many emotional memories of her time in the club. “We organize three summer camps every year with up to 30 children,” explains Rudi Mixdorf, the club’s boss. But it looks like this will no longer be possible in the future. The SCL retains the footbridge, but it is only accessible via the lake and only offers a small strip of land for walkers. However, its use is severely limited: there is a lack of infrastructure such as roofs, toilets and shelters in bad weather.
Shadows over the adventures
The old clubhouse, over which the SCL had just the right hand for years, is no longer available to the club. Instead, the Lindow regatta sailors, with whom the SCL is in constant conflict, received new showers, changing rooms and a seminar room as part of 105,000 euros in funding, of which 80,000 euros came from the state. It is impossible for the SCL to return to the old premises, meaning that youth work can hardly be maintained without protection and accommodation.
The conflict particularly revolves around child and youth work, the importance of which both clubs interpret differently. The regatta sailors, it is reported, refuse to work with the SCL and prefer to negotiate directly with the city. Recently, however, the dispute intensified when the SCL blocked water access for the regatta sailors. The conversations are about more than just spaces; it seems as if the very nature of the club's work is in danger.
Sailing and success in sports
Simeon Schubach and Paul Lepa also have big goals: They are switching to a 49er FX and are training for it in Strande near Kiel. The commitment of the young sailors is loud sailing-lindow.de admirable and shows that the passion for sailing goes beyond the organizational problems.
In this tense situation, it remains to be seen how things will develop. The importance of youth and club work cannot be overestimated, and the challenges, but also the successes, have shaped and continue to shape the SCL and its members. The hope remains that solutions will soon be found so that the leisure activities on offer and the shared experiences do not completely disappear into the water.
