Sea dam in Neuruppin closed: construction work causes chaos!

The city of Neuruppin is facing noticeable changes, because as of today, June 24, 2025, the lake dam will be completely closed for at least two years. This closure is part of a larger construction project that the State Roads Authority is carrying out in cooperation with the city of Neuruppin and the municipal utilities. The measures include the expansion of Neuruppiner Steinstraße and the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection with Ernst-Toller-Straße and the lake promenade. This will improve the transport infrastructure in the long term, even if the very first diversion on the first day caused confusion as the parking lot at Rheinsberger Tor station was closed without prior notice, as maz-online.de reports.

The situation is as follows in detail: The lake dam is around 520 meters long in total and leads over Lake Ruppiner, directly into the city center of Neuruppin. The official diversion takes place via federal highway 167 north around the lake. The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction work took place in April, when milling and asphalting began on both bridges. During the entire construction period, traffic is generally routed along one lane. Pedestrians and cyclists can continue to cross the sea dam, and shipping traffic will also remain possible without restrictions during the entire construction work, as rbb24.de explains.

A sad farewell to the bowling alley

But it's not just the road construction work that's causing excitement. Further sad news comes from nearby Kyritz: The Schwarz-Weiß Kyritz bowling club has to vacate its bowling alley by July 1st. This can no longer be used due to a renovation backlog. However, the club plans to continue training and playing in Neustadt. For the future, the members hope for a new bowling alley as part of a planned sports and education campus in Kyritz. Despite the difficult circumstances, the club members are sticking to their goal of continuing to live out their hobby, as reported on maz-online.de.

Together at the table

In the meantime, there is also positive news from the region. The wellness hotel Resort Mark Brandenburg has a new director who puts local ties at the forefront. On July 2nd, the hotel will host a networking meeting called “Together at the Table,” bringing together companies, restaurateurs and retailers. The aim is to offer regional producers a platform and promote exchange about local specialties.

The “health buddies” in Wusterhausen are also doing their best. These volunteers support people in need of care at home and spent over 1,200 hours on home visits last year. With their tireless efforts, they make an important contribution to enabling older and sick people to lead self-determined lives and supporting them in their quality of life.

As the city and its residents face the challenges and opportunities in infrastructure development, the successes of the younger generation must not be forgotten. This is what Evi students from Neuruppin did with their video “Boundaries! Go?” won the Federal President's history competition by asking their grandparents about the building and fall of the Wall. Her award in Potsdam is scheduled for the end of September, and the use of the prize money of 500 euros is still open, as ls.brandenburg.de reports.
