Steinmeier in Neuruppin: Three days for civil dialogue and culture!
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has made it his mission to get very close to the people. From July 1st to 3rd, 2025, he will move his official residence for three days to Neuruppin, a city known for its classicist architecture and historical figures such as Theodor Fontane, Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Eva Strittmatter. The visit is part of the “Local Time Germany” series, which aims to talk to citizens and get to know local developments up close. This is already the 16th stop in this series, as Tagesspiegel reports.
Neuruppin, the “Fontane town”, has around 32,000 inhabitants and is located on the picturesque Ruppiner Lake. Steinmeier already knows the area well and has expressed his attachment to the region in the past. A variety of activities are planned that not only show the beauty of the city, but also offer space for dialogue and exchange.
Program highlights in Neuruppin
The visit begins with a reception at Rheinsberger Tor train station, where the mayor, Nico Ruhle, will warmly welcome Steinmeier. Afterwards, a tour of the city is on the agenda, followed by a discussion with the city administration and citizens about local political issues. The Federal President will also be entered into the city's book of honor, which is of great importance for everyone involved.
Another highlight of the event will be the visit to the Neuruppin local group of the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Steinmeier will take part in a technical discussion in the district court to address the issue of domestic violence and is thus committed to important social issues.
Commitment to democracy
Steinmeier emphasizes how important exchange and encounters are for democracy, especially in times when many questions require shared discourse. “Local Time Neuruppin” not only offers a supporting program, but also the opportunity to receive constructive ideas and suggestions from the population.
The end of the visit is celebrated in the Kulturkirche, where committed citizens from Brandenburg are honored with medals. A worthy setting that honors and promotes voluntary commitment in the region, as [bundespraesident.de](https://www.bundespraesident.de/SharedDocs/Press Releases/DE/2025/06/250613-OZ-Neuruppin.html) reports.
Overall, Steinmeier's visit to Neuruppin promises to be an exciting and enriching time for everyone involved and shows the desire of the political leadership to enter into an active dialogue with the population.
